William Mackinnon 2014 Basil Sellers Prize, Ian Potter Museum of Art
William Mackinnon’s work presented for the Basil Sellers Art Prize reflects a personal passion for surfing. The coast is often portrayed in Mackinnon’s landscapes and in particular the location of Shoreham. Well known for its strong link to the seaside culture, Mackinnon has painted Shoreham in its varied seasonal appearances. These works are as much about the representation of fear and exhilaration experienced by big wave surfers, but also evoking a meditative and physiological journey.
